ABOUT REFUGEE FILM FESTIVAL NAGOYA

It is estimated that about 42 million people* today have been forced by persecution or conflicts to live either as internally displaced people (IDP’s) in their own countries or as refugees across boarders. The first ever Refugee Film Festival in Nagoya was therefore held two years ago in cooperation with the UNHCR representation in Japan to raise people’s awareness about the problems of refugees. It is being followed up this year with the screening of a selection of movies depicting the sufferings and bravery of refugees around the world.
*(UNHCR’s 2009 Annual Report on Global Planning and Coordination (Global Trends). According to the report, 16 out of 42 million people are refugees and asylum seekers,, while the remaining 26 million are internally displace people.)
