FORUM

Forums will be held at the Refugee Film Festival Nagoya 2009 to offer you a chance to exchange views with other people about the movies you have watched.
This is a big chance for you who might be thinking:

“I watched this movie, but I wonder whether my understanding is correct or not!”
“I feel like talking to someone about the mixed feelings I have right now.”
“The movie was so difficult I didn’t understand some parts. Can someone help me here?”
“I have always wanted to take part in some kind of debate. I shouldn’t miss this chance!!”

Committee members will take notes and lead discussions on the movies watched. Other experts and researchers in areas like anthropology and international relations will also be at hand. Our staff will welcome and guide everybody, even people accompanied by their families.

-Will discuss in English.
“Hello! I’m Susan. Would you rather speak in English? Why don’t you have an informal chat with me about the movies you saw today?”
“I’ve seen ‘the Visitor’ and ‘Hope’ , but I expect I will also watch many other films during the festival”

Shibuya Tsutomu
(Cultural Anthropology and Immigration studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Chukyo University).

With him we can start from such a simple questions arising from the different impressions about the people we meet in the movies and their cultural backgrounds as:
“What is the difference between immigrants and refugees?”
“What kind of food do the refugees eat?”
“What are their religions?”

Kim Kyungmook (School of International Liberal Studies, Chukyo University).

Have you heard of the term media literacy?
For people less familiar with international issues, it may be difficult to understand the stories in the movies, let alone the international issues behind them. Come let’s look at these issues and ask the questions together. There are no right answers. It is only important that we share our feelings.
